I think people discussing ASI have their head screwed on well, they’re just considering capacities that are farther down the line. It’s great to also hear a more immediate a perspective. What I got is combined systems working together and outsourcing is useful for ai. Add that to embodiment, a sensorium, and the capacity to “world-build” in real time, and I think we will have AGI.

Good interview - sane discussion. RAG is helpful - but from what I have seen there are still too many fundamentally incorrect answers from these models. There are just too many corner cases whereby an incorrect answer is disastrous for someone's career or company to put trust in the models - as a result you spend a lot of time double checking the results - time that could have been spent solving the problem directly. These tools have great promise in the areas of dynamic documentation, enhanced search etc. But the sooner we give up on trying to get a language model to "solve" problems, the better we will realise that these models are NOT thinking - they are searching on steroids.

The man is treating us all as if we're idiots: to make LLMs more useful in business you need to make them more general so that they can solve more problems. Making them more general is the same thing as trying to create Artificial *General* Intelligence. The company that achieves AGI and subsequently ASI will dominate. Or perhaps it will be the machine itself?

LLMs have had an impact tbh though. ChatGPT and similar is that product right with that impact today. And people from all ages use it and talk about, more so than the other etch. And they understand it relatively better arguably when compared to the precedent tech adoption....let alone anything else coming up. I think his example of a blank screen and we can ask it to do something is where we need to be heading towrads (not literally but as the concept if a dynamic and general tech to probable replace a whole lot of things....).

Some people are building AGI and they are not naive. Scaling LLMs might do something or not. Or they might just be powerful tools for building something else.

Do you think taking current datasets and synthesizing docstrings essentially but for real world prompt/assistant sets? this could add a level of reasoning if it adds extra context to current data online gradually improving contextual understanding of each reasoning that happens between the user and the agent, explaining what the users intents are and the misconceptions/pros/cons from the response of the assistant, add steps that could have improved the assistants responses by having another AI respond as a critique?

Cohere downplays AGI because that isn't their business model. It doesn't mean they have any idea how far away or how close AGI actually is.
